A chkdsk decided to happen on boot, which looked like it found a million and one things wrong and ‘fixed’ them. It reaches the boot screen but after it’s been on the Windows logo for 30 seconds or so, it BSODs with error code 0xca. Found some articles online about using DISM to recover but it doesn’t seem to work when it boots into the recovery screen.
Anyone else had anything like this? I think I’ve pretty much exhausted Google and the Microsoft articles it brings up. I’ve had to restore back a few days so ideally would like to get back up so the data isn’t lost. But feel it might not be a possibility at the moment. So yes, the power was effectively lost ‘suddenly’. It’s a virtual machine, but to be honest the host may well have, like you say, stopped the spindle dead and damaged the Hard Drive.
Though, the host has come back up fine, the other Guests are working fine. At the moment, everything is pointing to this one VM being an issue. You say print server but is it also a file server when you are after data?
If its a VM can you mount the disks on another machine and get at the data? You’re likely looking at a OS reinstall but that might work to access the data. Was the OS and data on separate disks?
